Members of the Sports Association at the Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry (SUFBF) have been active participants in Humanijada, an international sports and educational event for biomedical students coming from Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and, this year for the first time, Slovenia. Humanijada took place in Poreč from May 1st to May 5th this year. Overall results were incredible, with FBF taking an amazing bronze medal out of 17 participants. It is a result of the hard work and dedication of our students!
Overall ranking
This sports event started in 1993, and our students have been improving every year. This year’s Humanijada was organized by the Faculty of Medicine in Osijek. With 9 points won, our students proudly took a spot on the podium and won a bronze medal. Colleagues from the Faculty of Medicine in Zagreb won first place with 14 points, while the University of Applied Health Sciences won second place with 9 points. It was also possible to follow the results via the Humanijada mobile app, which was the most downloaded app in the App Store for a few days.
Golden Pharma
Our 114 students have demonstrated their excellence in 15 different sports, with many winning medals. The Women’s futsal team won a well-deserved gold medal after beating the Croatian Catholic University in the finals. Furthermore, Valentina Katia Garić Touma and Sara Žuvanić won a gold medal rowing in pairs, as well as Tin Mijatov who swam breaststroke for 50 meters. We also can’t forget about Ivana Karuc and Hana Petrović who were first in Beer pong. These results showcase the diverse range of sporting talents of our faculty members!
SUFBF’s medals
As many as 4 silver medals were won by the Women’s and Men’s volleyball teams, the rowing pair Tin Mijatov and Andro Brzović, and Ana Dekanić in the 50-meter breaststroke competition. After a long 6 years, the Women’s handball team came back to Zagreb with a medal, this time a bronze one! Alongside them, other bronze medals were won by the Men’s handball team, rowing pair Valentina Boršić and Bruna Grubišić, the Swimming team in baton, and Tin Mijatov who swam 50 meters freestyle. Lastly, our team also won a bronze medal at the organized Pub Quiz.
The important thing is not to win, but to take part!
In the spirit of fair play, our students left some medals to other faculties and left room for improvement in some sports including Basketball, Cross-country, Beach Volleyball, Tennis, Table Tennis, Chess, and Darts. The Men’s futsal team won a high 4th place, losing on penalties in a dramatic semi-final against the University of Applied Health Sciences, and in the same way in the battle for a bronze medal against the Faculty of Medicine in Zagreb. The balls hit both goalkeepers and posts, and we believe that next year they will hit the target and return home with a medal!
“This year’s Humanijada, in a series of previous ones, was a record one in many ways. We counted around 110 athletes and 70 guests from our faculty, which displays a growing interest in this 5-day-long event full of sports and socialization! We want to express our gratitude to our donors for helping us achieve our goal of lowering costs and providing gear for our athletes! In return, our students gave us the biggest prize – satisfaction, smiles, and as many as 8 trophies which led to the 9th one for being 3rd in overall results!” SUFBF
We would like to extend our sincere congratulations to all the participants of Humanijada for their outstanding achievements. We are especially proud of the students of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry for their performance. Their success testifies to their dedication and talent and strengthens the faculty’s reputation as a worthy sports competitor. Good job everyone!
